Tell us a bit about yourself – where did you grow up, what did you go to school for, etc.

I am 40 years old and grew up in Munich, which is where I still live. I studied social work and worked as a social worker for 4 years until I got pregnant with my first child. I did a yoga teacher training from 2010-2012 and started teaching from 2011 on. Now I’m just teaching yoga, no work as a social worker at the moment since my younger child is only two years old. Also, I’m not sure whether I go back there.

Tell us about your journey to yoga! When and how did you get into it?

I used to have a lot of headache and migraine in my late 20s which lead me to yoga. I started yoga in 2008 and loved it from the beginning. So I decided to do a TT in 2010. Now it’s 10 years that I have been practising.

Yoga isn’t about postures, it’s about the inner journey.

What are the biggest lessons that yoga’s taught you?

Yoga taught me that I’m strong and can handle and do anything. It taught me to breathe through difficult situations and to be patient with myself. Also, it helped me to stay relaxed in several situations and accept things the way they are.

Top tips for self-care?

Take time for things you love at least 4 times a week, even if it’s only for 10 minutes. Rest every day at least 30 minutes. Rest every week at least a half day. Rest every month at least one weekend. Rest every year at least one week (at once), better two. Do what you love and don’t let anybody tell you it ain’t worth it. Turn off your mobile sometimes. 🙂

As a yoga teacher, what advice do you have for people just getting started with yoga?

Go to a yoga teacher at least once a week if possible. Appreciate your body, accept the boundaries of your body, don’t rush and don’t compare yourself to others. Yoga isn’t about postures, it’s about the inner journey.

What are some choices you make in your day to day life to live more sustainably?

I try to eat organic food, in the best case which is from my area, I use washable little tissues as toilet paper (well, only for peeing 😏), I use a menstruation cup and washable panty liners, I just changed from liquid soap in plastic bottles to real soap, which I also want to use as shampoo and for showering. I don’t use plastic bags and I try to buy vegetables and fruits without plastic. Also, I avoid straws and I separate glass and paper. I think that’s all. Of course, I love the stuff from Yogacycled which is so beautiful.
