Tell us a bit about yourself – where did you grow up, what did you go to school for, etc.

I lived in Japan until 2011. After the big earthquake of that year, I moved to Bali, Indonesia and now I live on Java Island. When I was a kid, I hated any sports…I liked playing the piano, reading books and knitting. I was a quiet girl. I learned the basics of computers at school and worked at a telecommunications company. I got married when I was 27 years old, and I have been busy because I gave birth to four children and I spent days without sleeping well.

Tell us about your journey to yoga! When and how did you get into it?

I was so busy that I had no time to care for myself. Parenting is a hard job for my weak body and I have terrible lower back pain and couldn’t even walk… I looked for various things that could be good for my body and I found yoga. I just bought a book about yoga at a bookstore and that was the start of my yoga journey. At first, I had pain even in easy poses but gradually I became flexible and strong little by little and now I can not live without yoga.

How has your yoga practice impacted your day-to-day life?

I don’t need to diet since I started yoga. I have passed the age of 40 but my body size is the same as when I was 20 years old. Moving my body everyday with yoga makes me feel light. I feel my happiness has increased after doing yoga. Of course, I don’t have lower back pains anymore.

What are your top tips for self-care?

Sleep well is the most important thing and eat more fruits and vegetables. It is also important not to put too much on your schedule.

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

I want to go to Ubud, Bali. I want to get together with yoga friends from all over the world and do yoga!

What are some choices you make in your day to day life to live more sustainably?

I always choose the most natural products as often as possible. Food, daily necessities and cosmetics also. Born from nature and return to nature…I think it’s important not to disturb that flow.
